Emergency appeal for Sri Lanka
The people of Sri Lanka are in dire need of your support.
As you may be hearing in the news, Sri Lanka is facing an unprecedented economic collapse and a humanitarian crisis is rippling through the country.
It is a time of extreme scarcity for millions of people deprived of basic necessities such as food, medicine, and fuel.
People are losing hope as the crisis continues to escalate by the day. Conditions within the already impoverished communities we are working in are worsening due to the crisis and these communities will be facing additional long-term effects.
International Needs Lanka (INLK) currently works in Puthukkudiyiruppu (PTK) just off Mullaitivu (which has an overall population of 40,000 people) with 3 communities of Suresh Kudiyiruppu, Nesan Kudiyiruppu and Thimbili. INLK runs self help groups for women, education programming for children and livelihoods programs across the community.
IN Sri Lanka is starting a home gardening initiative, where they will be providing vegetable seedlings to 1000 families in the Northern District of Mullaitivu. Growing some of our own food in our backyard is a simple yet effective way of taking power over our health and well-being while at the same time working for the greater good.
Home gardening can tide over the communities by increasing access to healthy foods and reducing food budgets; and in some cases may even increase financial stability through the sale of any surplus food.
Could you help provide seeds of hope to these families in great need?
