Arju comes from the small village of Chhampi in the Lalitpur district of Nepal. Her family has faced significant economic hardship for many years. Both of her parents worked as seasonal labourers on other people’s farms, and her father’s struggle with alcohol made life at home even more difficult.
In 2015, their situation worsened dramatically when the devastating earthquake struck Nepal, destroying their home and deepening the family’s financial struggles.
In 2015, their situation worsened dramatically when the devastating earthquake struck Nepal, destroying their home and deepening the family’s financial struggles.
When Arju was ten years old (Year 4), she was selected for sponsorship through International Needs Nepal. This support brought much-needed relief to her family and enabled her to continue her education. Over the past eight years, this sponsorship has not only helped ease the financial burden on her parents but has also inspired Arju to work hard and dream of a better future.
With the support she received, Arju’s educational journey became more stable. She recently completed her final secondary school exams (Grade 12) and is now interning at the IN-Nepal office. There, she is gaining valuable experience and learning essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership.
Looking ahead, Arju aspires to study for a Bachelor of Information Technology. She remains deeply grateful for the support she has received throughout her education-especially from IN-Nepal and her New Zealand sponsor-whose encouragement has been instrumental in shaping her journey and inspiring her dreams.
Arju has come so far-now she needs someone to walk with her into the next chapter.
We’re seeking a sponsor to support Arju as she begins her tertiary studies in Information Technology.
Could you be the one to help her take this next important step?
If this is you, please contact sponsorship@innz.org.nz.
