Hope Growing in Korogocho: Bible Clubs Transforming Young Lives

In the heart of Korogocho slum in Kenya, where daily life is marked by poverty and uncertainty, a simple weekly gathering is helping change children’s futures.

Through Bible Clubs supported by International Needs, more than 75 children gather each week to learn, grow, and experience a safe and caring environment. What may look like an ordinary Saturday meeting is, for many children, a lifeline of hope. THIS IS A TEST

The programme is designed to nurture spiritual growth, strong moral values, and positive life choices. Children engage in Bible storytelling, devotions, memory verse challenges, art and craft activities, and health and hygiene lessons. Beyond spiritual learning, they are building confidence, friendships, and practical life skills.

The impact is tangible. Children are participating consistently, showing positive behavioural change, and growing in their understanding of faith and community. Over 80 children have taken part in health and hygiene training—an important addition as the clubs meet near a dumpsite where many children arrive each week in need of care and encouragement. Beginning the day with porridge and practical hygiene lessons has helped restore dignity and promote well-being.

The programme is also strengthening local ownership. Community teachers have been trained in child development, trauma awareness, and classroom management to ensure the clubs remain child-focused, emotionally supportive, and sustainable. Four community teachers and staff members are now better equipped to lead engaging and structured sessions.

Messi is one of the children who has faithfully attended the Bible Club week after week. As part of the programme, the club runs Scripture Arts sessions, where children reflect on a short Bible passage and express their understanding through drawing and painting. When Messi first joined, he was very quiet and tended to keep to himself, choosing art activities over participating in lively group games.

Teachers soon noticed the care and detail in his drawings and began offering gentle encouragement during the Scripture Arts sessions. Using donated art supplies, Messi learned basic drawing techniques and completed small projects inspired by the Bible lessons. His artwork stood out for its creativity and thoughtful expression.

As his skills developed, so did his confidence. Messi began sharing his drawings with others and now often helps younger children select colours and materials during art time. Through the Bible Club, his artistic talent has been nurtured alongside his self-esteem and sense of belonging.

Today, Messi continues to attend the club regularly, actively engaging in Scripture Arts, devotion time, and Bible study. His story highlights how the Bible Club is helping children discover their gifts, build confidence, and grow both creatively and spiritually.

In communities facing hardship, transformation often begins with something simple: a safe space, a caring adult, a shared meal, and the Word of God.

Thank you for helping create places where children can grow in faith, character, and hope.
