At the Ophel Health Center in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, every improvement in equipment and every act of prevention directly impacts vulnerable families.
Thanks to the support of INNZ, the centre has recently taken a major step forward in patient safety with the acquisition of a modern steriliser. Previously, outdated equipment increased infection risks and caused delays in laboratory procedures. Today, the new state-of-the-art steriliser is used daily for surgical instruments and laboratory tools.

Within just two weeks of operation, staff reported an average of three sterilisation cycles per day, an estimated 95% reduction in infection risk, and approximately three hours saved daily in equipment preparation. This means safer procedures, faster care, and greater confidence for both patients and medical staff.
But improved equipment is only part of the story.
The Ophel Medical Centre continues to provide essential frontline healthcare to the community. Over the past quarter alone:
- More than 3,000 nursing consultations were conducted.
- Over 300 safe deliveries took place, including 166 baby girls.
- 40 women were screened for breast and cervical cancer.
- Three major awareness campaigns were held on contraceptive methods and women’s health.
Malaria prevention remains a critical priority. Insecticide-treated mosquito nets were distributed to pregnant women, new mothers, and vulnerable patients, alongside education on proper use. Health centre buildings—including the dispensary, maternity ward, and pharmacy—were cleaned and sanitized to reduce mosquito breeding and improve hygiene standards.

Together, these interventions—modern sterilisation equipment, maternal care, malaria prevention, cancer screening, and daily clinical services—are strengthening trust in the health system and improving outcomes for women, newborns, and families.
What may seem like a single piece of equipment or a simple mosquito net represents something much greater: safety, dignity, and hope.
Thank you for helping ensure that families in Burkina Faso can access quality healthcare in a clean, safe, and life-giving environment.
