Savar children's village repairs

The Savar Children’s Village is a school for vulnerable and orphaned girls. Upgrades are urgently needed throughout the campus.

Bangladesh has the world’s highest rates of child marriage, with girls as young as 13 being “sold” through the dowry system. In Bangladesh, marriage is illegal for girls under the age of 18 and for boys under 21. However, almost three out of five young women were married as children, with one in five married by the age of 15 in 2014. This practice challenges the girls’ rights to education, health, protection, and development.

The Savar Children’s Village hosts 250 orphans and vulnerable girls from various regions in Bangladesh. The facility includes a large courtyard, a multi purpose room, school dormitories, and a medical clinic. Due to damp weather and the long term use of the campus buildings, cracks and openings have begun forming in the structures and water slips through when it rains, creating an unhealthy environment for the children and those who care for them.

Your gift will contribution to reconstruction, re-plastering, as well as plumbing and electric repairs around the campus. Once the upgrades are complete, the buildings will be painted.

International Needs New Zealand would love your support to help fund $26,700 towards these urgent and much need renovations and upgrades. Your support will positively impact the health and wellbeing of the children and staff.
