Savar Medical Centre

Providing essential healthcare, education, and maternal-child support to empower vulnerable communities in Savar, Bangladesh.

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

The Project

In Savar, Bangladesh, many families—especially women and children—face limited access to affordable healthcare. Preventable illnesses, malnutrition, and a lack of health education continue to put vulnerable communities at risk.

The Savar Mother and Child Health Care Project provides free, accessible healthcare to those who need it most. Through a dedicated health centre and community outreach, the project is helping reduce maternal and infant health risks, prevent disease, and support families to build healthier futures.

Objectives

  • Providing free medical check-ups, treatment, and essential medicines
  • Supporting maternal and child health through specialised care
  • Delivering vaccinations and vitamin supplements for children and mothers
  • Running community medical camps to reach underserved families
  • Providing health education on nutrition, hygiene, and safe pregnancy
  • Supporting disease prevention through WASH and health awareness

Progress

Over the past six months:

  • 226 patients were reached through community medical camps
  • 351 individuals received vaccinations or vitamin supplements
  • Ongoing clinic services continue to support families with regular care and treatment

The project is helping prevent common illnesses, improve maternal health, and strengthen overall community wellbeing.

A Mother’s Hope

rupali-r

Rupali Begum, living in a slum in Savar with her two children, faced severe challenges after losing their home and land in the 2020 flood. Her husband, Chandmia, drives an auto rickshaw, but their financial situation was dire after struggling to find work in Jamalpur and eventually settling in Savar.

For two months, Rupali’s youngest child suffered from a persistent fever and cold, but they couldn’t afford the necessary medical care due to the high costs. One day, while walking to the market, Rupali noticed many women and children carrying medicine. Upon learning about the available free health services, she promptly took her child to the Savar Medical Centre. There, her child received essential medical treatment and medication, leading to a full recovery.

Rupali is immensely thankful for the free medical care, which provided crucial relief and improved her child’s health during a difficult time.
