"I Am Proud To Be A Girl"
How a young girl India discovered the living God and is now empowered to make a difference
Your support makes a big difference, especially for girls who live in a country where they can be seen as having less value than boys. Read the story of Nirmala, who came to the Sano Diyo home for abandoned and vulnerable girls and discovered her value in Jesus Christ.
“My name is Nirmala. I was born in the foothills of Darjeeling, India. My father died when I was a child and left my mother, brother, and me alone.
“Many times we went to bed hungry. I did not go to school and did not even know there was [a school]. I fell sick frequently. Life was very miserable.
“I did not know the living God and worshipped all kinds of idols. But as God says in Jeremiah 1:4, ‘Before I formed you in your mother’s womb I knew you; before you were born I set you apart.’
“One day a pastor came and told my mother about Sano Diyo [Little Lighthouse]. God knew me before I was born and He chose me to come to Sano Diyo.
“After I came to Sano Diyo my life changed. I know a living God and He is my everything. He has done many great things in my life. He has healed me from all my sickness. It was through His grace that I was able to go to school all the way through high school. If it is God’s will, I look forward to university in my future.
“Now I am 19 years old and I am proud to be a girl. Today I can stand among the rest and fight for my rights.”
