Lydia Vocational Training Program (LVTP)
Developing vocational skills to enable these women to set up their own businesses
Since 1997, IN Nepal has been faithfully serving the underprivileged and vulnerable women of Nepal at the Lydia Vocational Training Centre (LVTC), Kathmandu, Nepal.
The Lydia Program at LVTC has seen more than 1000 women from across the country receive vocational skills training as well as awareness training on gender based violence and women's rights.
The focus of the Lydia program is to:
1. Equip women and girls with vocational and business skills in a variety of areas that will benefit their families and communities.
2. Empower women and girls with an understanding of their rights and purpose; and
3. Provide personal spiritual growth by hearing about the Gospel of Jesus Christ
This is done through:
- Three-month Advanced Tailoring Training for 12 women, twice per year (24 women in total)
- Other market-based income generating/vocational skills training for up to 25 women per year
- Inhouse business training to foster economic empowerment for total of 20 women per year
- Income generation assistance/working capital to assist with increasing productivity
- Education sessions on women's rights for up to 200 women per year
- Loving on these women and girls through practicing hospitality and sharing with them the love and gospel of Jesus Christ.
Women are identified for the Lydia programme by a network of 40 International Needs community workers based all around the country. Many of the women who are in most need come from communities in extremely rural regions of the country.
How can you help?
1. Donate Financially: Your monetary contributions will directly help to:
- Support women and girls to gain advanced tailoring skills.
- Support women and girls who may want to learn another vocational skill (such as agriculture),
- Assist women and girls who graduate from vocational skills training who may need some startup capital
- Provide women and girls with essential business training so that they can successfully engage in and set up a home business.
- Reach women and girls in the community by running awareness trainings on their rights, gender-based violence and child marriage
2. Volunteer Your Time: Consider volunteering and joining us for one of our Discovery Tours to the Lydia Training Centre in Nepal. Your skills and contribution can have a lasting impact. If you are interested in finding out more about our upcoming Discovery Tours, please contact info@innz.org.nz
3. Spread the Word: Share our mission with your friends, family, and colleagues. Help us raise awareness about the issues facing these communities in Nepal and the ways they can be addressed.
4. Fundraise for Us: Organize a fundraising event or campaign to support the Lydia Project. Every dollar raised goes directly towards improving the lives of those in need.
Thank you for your continued support for this vital work with the women of Nepal.
